This photo was taken near Mt. Vernon, Washington. Huge flocks of geese congregate together in the fields near Conway, LaConner and Mt. Vernon. Like many other people, I was out photographing this gathering and being awestruck at both the sight of these birds in such large numbers and the incredible noise they make. Often, a large number of them will take to flight at the same time which is an incredible thing to witness and hear!

On this day, a helicopter flew overhead and most all of them took to the air. I only had a few shots left on my memory card...so much for being ready!
